The PHOENIX project aimed to study, develop and test participatory and deliberative practices to improve the implementation of the European Green Deal and build a better, greener future for all.
A fair and inclusive green transition requires the involvement, commitment and active contribution of citizens. PHOENIX aimed to encourage this engagement and commitment, and to establish a connection between citizens and European institutions.
Funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 programme, the PHOENIX project concluded in 2025. Initially, both the Commission and Parliament showed great interest in sustainability issues. Unfortunately, following the June 2024 elections, the new political class has shown far less interest in these issues. Nevertheless, the pilot projects and the project’s results remain of interest, and the issue is, of course, more relevant than ever.
