The Collective Ecosystem Game was developed as a participatory education tool combining gamification and environmental education, in line with the objectives of the EU-funded PHOENIX project.
Its objective is to spark a discussion about how to maximize territorial resilience and sustainability without disrupting the environmental balance. Consequently, a session at the game’s conclusion allows players to reflect critically on their decisions and their results.
Players play real-world land-use decisions by balancing short-term gains and long-term ecological impacts after a facilitator has explained the game’s meaning, rules, and basis. The aim is to propel your city towards an innovative scenario, enhancing the contributions of nature to individuals.
Targeting activists, policymakers, teachers, and citizens among others, the game was conceived as a tool to convert abstract ecological principles into practical actions to be discussed.
