Before and after the lockdown. Movements and ‘moorings’ as we await a mobility shift

Alberti, Francesco; Zetti, Iacopo (2020). Prima e dopo il lockdown. Movimenti e ‘ancoraggi’ nell’attesa di un mobility turn. CONTESTI, vol. 1/2019, pp. 8-23.

The dialectic between ‘movement and mooring’ is at the heart of studies of ‘new mobilities’. This interdisciplinary approach broadens and somewhat questions the concept of mobility, which is almost exclusively focused on the technical, managerial and infrastructural aspects of different ‘modes of transport’. The lockdown implemented in many countries to contain the spread of the Coronavirus has brought this dialectic into sharp relief. It is explored in various ways in the contributions to this issue of Contesti through methodological discussions, literature reviews and case studies. The articles provide a comprehensive overview of the challenges and opportunities associated with a paradigm shift in mobility, with the aim of making it more environmentally sustainable and centred on people rather than vehicles.
